Spent a few hours setting up audio bitstreaming from my laptop (WinXP with ATI driver supporting HDMI) via HDMI to my AV receiver (Sony STR-DA 2400ES). The purpose is to pass through the undecoded signal to the AV receiver which equips with dts HD and dolby HD decoders.
The prerequisites to setting up;
First attempt
I installed K_Lite_Codec_Pack that comes with the Media Player Classic Home Cinema.
Second attempt (Working)
I installed Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC-HC.1.7.3), and LAVFilters 0.60.1
Setting up Laptop's output - HDMI
Start Control Panel-> Sounds n Audio Devices.
Select Audio tab, and change the default device to ATI driver that supports HDMI (i.e. ATI HD Audio rear output).
Select Volume tab, and click Advanced button. Decide the setup (i.e. 5.1 or 7.1). Select the speaker setup. Click Apply button to take effect.
Plug HDMI cable into laptop's HDMI port and plug into AV receiver's HDMI input.
Media Player
Run the MPC-HC player.
Select View->Options. Look for Playback->Output.
I have set the DirectShow Video to Video Mixing Renderer 7 (windowed).
Next the RealMedia Video to Video Mixing Renderer 7 (renderless), and QuickTime video to Video Mixing Renderer 7 (renderless).
The Audio Renderer is set to ATI HD Audio rear output.
Select View->Options. Select Internal Filters.
Click Audio decoder button, and Select Audio Settings tab. Under Bitstreaming (S/PDIF, HDMI), I have selected Dolby Digital (AC-3) and DTS.
Under Options, I have selected Auto A/V Sync correction, and Convert Output to Standard Channel Layouts.
Under Output Formats, I have selected 16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit, 8-bit Integers and 32 bit Floating point.
Select Mixing tab, and configure the Output Speaker Configuration to your speaker setup, 5.1 or 7.1.
Select View->Options. Select Internal Filters->Audio Switcher.
Select Enable built-in audio switcher filter (requires restart). Map the speaker configuration by enabling custom channel mapping. Increase the input channels to your speaker setup. Click Apply and OK.
Select View->Options. Select External Filters.
Add filters by clicking Add filter.. button. Browse for the LAV filters that you have installed earlier. There are 3 type of LAV to be added.
1. LAV Audio Decoder
2. LAV Splitter
3. LAV Video Decoder
Click Apply and OK.
Next play a movie with dts or dolby audio.
Check the LAV setting when playing the movie. Select Play->Filters, and it shows the components that are running.
Select Play->Filters->LAV Audio Decoder.
Under Audio Settings,
Under Dynamic Range Compression, select the Apply DRC on formats that supports it (AC3, EAC3)
Under Bitstreaming (S/PDIF, HDMI), select all of the formats including the options.
Under Options, select Auto A/V Sync correction, and Convert Output to Standard Channel Layouts.
Under the Output Formats, select 16-bit Integer. Click Apply and OK.
Under Mixing,
Select Enable Mixing, and set the Output Speaker Configuration to your speaker setup. Leave the rest of the settings by default.
That's all. The steps are trial..and may not work with your setup.
